Our Classroom Website

Welcome!

Our goal this year is to learn and have fun.  I know different people learn in different ways and we will try to meet your child with their learning style.  Some students will require more hands-on while others can learn just by reading.  If your child loves to sing and quickly learns songs, help your child by making songs out of the material being learned.  Many songs can be found on YouTube to help your children remember math, English rules, and other topic areas.  Other children learn by exercise, so maybe play hopscotch or other physical games where the children only move once they get math problem right and a spelling word correct.

Exercise helps children learn, so please encourage your child to have physical activity for at least one hour a day.  I highly encourage your child to play the sport of their choice.  Team sports have many benefits, in the classroom and in life.

Sleep is also critical in learning.  A child needs eight hours of sleep a night. Encourage your child to have a regular sleep schedule.

Another key component is food.  A balanced diet will help your child learn.  The American Heart Association recommends no more than four teaspoons of sugar a day for children.  Sugar has been linked to shortening attention spans and reduced memory.  Whole grains are better than processed grains such as white bread.  Fish is really good for the brain because of all the omega-3 fatty acids.  Blueberries are great and help the brain produce the chemicals it needs to learn.  Pumpkin seeds are another great learning snack.

Remember our classroom rules at all times:  I can and I will...

1. ... raise my hand to speak or to leave my seat.

My learning is my responsibility and it is up to me to make sure I understand what is being taught!  So I'll raise my hand and ask questions!

2. ... keep hands, feet, and objects to myself.

3. ... walk in a straight line everywhere.

4. ... be respectful.

I will respect everybody in the school.  Everybody is special and has value and I will value their life.

5. ... be honest.

6.  ... I can't remember right now!!!!!

I will not bully and I will not let other kids be bullied.
